Everything we do creates neural pathways. Your brain puts insulation; called myelin around those specific neurons.

This process called myelination is used to make the neural impulses faster the next time it’s needed.

Every time we do something EXACTLY the same way – EXACTLY, our brain puts another layer of insulation on that neural pathway.

The more you do it, the more insulation.

The more insulation, the faster the impulse will be sent. AND the harder it will be for stress hormones to infiltrate that path when you need it most.

Here’s where most people who are trying to learn to shoot faster or teach how to shoot faster actually have the science backwards.

The process of myelination is improved by going slow and perfect.

We cannot control the speed of our neural impulses by just trying to “push your speed.”

Pushing your speed along an unformed neural pathway will cause the impulse to go off path and you just created insulation around a path you don’t want.

Speed happens.

The way to shoot faster is to create a neural super-highway through perfect, stress-free practice. This is rule #5 – Dry weapons training in my New Rules of Marksmanship. By the way, if you simply follow the New Rules of Marksmanship’s 7 true fundamentals you’ll not only shoot faster, but you’ll improve your accuracy and your ability to shoot under stress at the same time.

Bonus tips to shoot faster:

  1. Think faster – We all have a sound in our heads before we shoot of what it will sound like. Change that sound in your head, make if faster and you can shoot as fast as you think.

There’s a reason why Training your Brain is the #1 rule in the New Rules of Marksmanship.

  1. Use New Rules of marksmanship rule #3: Physics. Like the 3 little pigs, you need to build a stronger house. The faster you shoot, the more aggressive you need to be.
